Kyle in Poland: Days 79-82
Eating fish, Walking around town, Trip to Osielsko, and more, Photos at the end
On June 17, I woke up early and immediately made sure to wish Skye a happy birthday.
After getting ready for the day, I then spent the next few hours working on stories- writing, editing, and eventually publishing.
I took a brief moment to stop, eat cereal for lunch, and then went right back to producing another story.
When I finally reached a stopping point, I stretched and prepared to go to the baseball field. Unfortunately, somebody else was using the bike so I had to make the dreaded 25-minute trek on foot.
Slowly but surely, I made it to the field.
Upon arriving, I took a tiny break in the dugout before stretching and throwing into the net. That day, I felt decent but decided to take it relatively easy and focus on mechanics.
After finishing up, I mixed in some light arm recovery, and walked back to the apartment.
In my room once again, I laid around and contemplated dinner options. Wanting to switch it up from the usual rotation, I decided to go to a restaurant.
This time, I chose Gospoda U Chlopa, the fish place that Caleb loved. I kept it simple and ordered the same exact meal as my previous trips, fresh cod, boiled potatoes, and Pepsi. As always, the food was incredible.
Still feeling adventurous whenever I left the restaurant, I decided to take a different route through town.
Shortly after I began my walk, I noticed the tall Wladyslawowo tower in view, and went toward its direction.
Along the way, there were several interesting things that caught my attention.
First, I saw a go kart track. Although I had never been there before, I was familiar with the track because I had seen it multiple times in a YouTube video about Wladyslawowo.
Further along, there was an enclosed area with figures from the “Ice Age” movies. It was completely random, but very interesting to stumble across.
I went up the steps toward the tower, took a moment to admire the building, and continued walking.
Nearby, there was a closed amusement park, so I checked it out as well. With rollercoaster rides and a Ferris Wheel, it seemed like a neat little place.
Now in the “normal” part of town, I walked back to the apartment and began packing for the upcoming road trip to Osielsko.
Once that was finished, I showered, and edited before going to bed.
The next day, I woke up around 6:30 a.m., and got ready to leave. About 30 minutes later, Kamil picked us up and we hit the road for our final away series.
After an hour or so had passed, we stopped at a McDonald’s for breakfast. Although I do not typically eat that early in the morning, I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin, which turned out pretty good.
We ate, continued with our drive, and made it to Osielsko an hour and a half later. To read all about our doubleheader, click here.
After our games concluded, some of the local kids we signed autographs for told us goodbye.
Taku, being the hilarious person he is, told one of them, “See you later, boy,” and began singing “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. It was completely unexpected, and I cracked up laughing.
We said a few more goodbyes to the opposing players we knew and got back on the road.
A little bit later, we stopped at KFC for dinner. Of course, with my luck, something had to go awry.
My order took much, much longer than everyone else’s and by the time I received my double chicken sandwich and wings, all the other guys were nearly done eating. The food ended up being very good, but I felt bad that everyone had to wait on me.
Finally, once I was finished, we headed back to Wladyslawowo.
We made it to the apartment around 9:30 p.m. and completed our exceptionally long day. I later showered, unpacked, and settled in for the night.
The following day, June 19, was mostly for rest.
I passed out relatively early (for me) the previous night and slept nearly 12 hours. It felt incredible being able to get that much rest, and it was certainly much needed.
I got up, dressed, wrote most of the game recaps, and quickly stretched before leaving for kid’s practice in the afternoon.
That day, they did their usual routine, fielding drills and games. The only deviance from the normal structure was Masa at first base, Taku playing on one of the teams, and me as the catcher.
An hour or so later, practice ended and Greg drove us back.
In my room once again, I laid around for a while until I got hungry and made four kielbasa hot dogs for dinner.
Afterward, I spent time talking to my mom, Jocelyn, and then both of them at the same time. It was funny to have all three of us on the same call, because I did not know it was even a possibility through Facetime.
Once we got off the phone, I finished writing the game recaps and slightly edited before falling asleep.
The next day, I woke up around noon, showered, and got ready.
For the vast majority of the day, I edited a story and eventually published it.
Once that was taken care of, I went through a deep stretching routine that felt great since I had been laying around most of the day. Toward the end of it, I got a call from Skye and Avery and talked to them for a while.
After we concluded our call, I made wings for dinner, my favorite quick and easy option.
Later, I cleaned up, and took it easy for the rest of the night.
